・One of the aims of public sessions is to provide public attendees with the frontier research results and beneficial topics in geoscience fields. Another purpose is to encourage interaction between public attendees and researchers.
・Public sessions are open to any kind of participants for free.
・Registration and abstract submission fees are free of charge for presenters of public sessions.
・Conveners who wish to hold a Public session may send a request to the Program Committee in the designated form and then the committee will review and approve or reject the request.
・Sessions not approved as Public session will be accepted as a regular scientific session.
Requirements for Proposals
The purpose is to promote information exchange and interaction between researchers and public attendees (including junior and senior high school students).
Public sessions must fulfill at least one of the requirements described below.
・The content must be designed to disseminate the frontier research results and beneficial topics in geoscience fields to the general public, and provide the opportunity to hold discussions based on them.
・The content that provides a discussion on the activity reports and/or research results by public attendees.
Requirements to Hold a Session
・Public sessions are to be held on Sunday, the Public Day.
Conveners requesting to hold a public session must be able to convene a session on this day.
・Most of the audience are expected to be only Japanese speaking attendees.
For their benefit, the session language must be J (Japanese) and presentations should be delivered in Japanese. However, English may be designated as the session language if the purpose is to promote communication in English between the general public and researchers. In such cases, the reason for selecting English must be clearly stated in the session scope. JpGU does not provide language support, nor interpretation.
・All presenters including invited authors must submit abstracts using the online submission tool.
・Presenters must submit their abstracts within the regular abstract submission period.
Submission after the abstract submission deadline is not accepted in any case. (Except for the poster presentation session by high school students)
Benefits for Public Sessions
・Public sessions receive one oral slot regardless of the number of submissions received to their sessions or the allocations in previous years.
・Registration fee is free of charge for both presenters and attendees of Public sessions, and no abstract submission fee is required for presentations in Public Sessions.
*Invited speakers who give presentations only in Public Sessions are exempt from the meeting registration fee. Those who present in the regular sessions are required a regular meeting registration (with fee).
・The session should consist of invited talks only (except for poster presentation session by high school students).
・There is no limit in the number of invited authors.
・Conveners can decide from whom they will accept submissions and may hold an invited-only session.
・Oral-only session is available.
・JpGU will provide financial support (up to 100,000 JPY/session) for the travel expenses of presenters of Public session that will only present at the public session and attend the meeting only on the date of presentation.
Important Notes
・JpGU may request for a plain-language summary and/or pictures of conveners to make promotion materials to JGL and/or other publications.
・All public attendees are required to register from the JpGU Public Participation Registration System in advance to attend public sessions.
